Project Overview

Set within a beautiful Victorian home in Caversham Heights, Berkshire, this bespoke kitchen renovation brings together traditional craftsmanship, understated colour and carefully considered modern functionality.

Designed and handcrafted by Willow Tree Interiors, the kitchen was created to feel sympathetic to the character of the property while providing everything required of a contemporary family kitchen. Classic framed cabinetry, warm brass detailing and a soft, layered colour palette give the room a timeless quality, while thoughtfully concealed appliances and storage keep the overall design calm and uncluttered.

Bespoke Cabinetry & Colour

The bespoke cabinetry is painted in Little Greene Portland Stone, a beautifully soft neutral that works particularly well with the natural light and period proportions of the room.

For the central island, Neptune Lead Light introduces a deeper, contrasting tone. The result is subtle rather than dramatic, allowing the island to anchor the room while maintaining the warm and relaxed feel of the surrounding cabinetry.

Armac Martin brass handles and knobs provide the finishing touch, introducing warmth against the painted furniture and reinforcing the traditional character of the kitchen.

Reeded glass doors add another layer of detail to the cabinetry, softly diffusing the light within while providing an elegant display space.

The Heart of the Kitchen

At the centre of the cooking area sits a substantial Falcon range cooker, complemented by a discreet Westin extractorintegrated into bespoke cabinetry above.

Rather than allowing the appliances to dominate the room, the surrounding furniture has been carefully proportioned to make the cooking area feel like an integral part of the kitchen.

A Fisher & Paykel fridge, Caple wine cooler and Quooker tap bring contemporary convenience to the space while sitting comfortably within the more traditional design.

Concealed Breakfast & Coffee Cupboard

One of our favourite details is the bespoke breakfast and coffee cupboard.

Behind full-height doors is a dedicated space for the everyday appliances and essentials that can so easily clutter a kitchen worktop. Open the doors and everything is immediately accessible; close them and the kitchen returns to its clean, considered appearance.

The contrasting timber interior adds warmth and creates a beautiful piece of cabinetry in its own right.

A Kitchen Designed Around Everyday Living

A generous central island provides additional preparation space, storage and informal seating, making it a natural gathering point within the room.

Throughout the kitchen, storage has been designed around how the space will actually be used. From the concealed breakfast station and integrated appliances to generous drawers and individually considered cupboards, every area has a purpose without compromising the traditional appearance of the cabinetry.

Underfoot, a Woodpecker herringbone timber floor, supplied and installed by our own team, brings warmth and texture to the scheme. Its classic herringbone pattern feels particularly at home within the Victorian property and helps connect the new kitchen with the character of the house.

The Caversham Heights Project demonstrates how a new bespoke kitchen can respect the architecture of a period property without feeling like a reproduction of the past.
